The Journey Begins

SS_Caribou_colour_postcard_Maritime Hist ArchivesWelcome on board the S.S. Caribou, leaving from Sydney, Cape Breton. It is Tuesday, October 13, 1942 and the ship is scheduled to sail for Port aux Basques, Newfoundland at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Of the 238 crew and passengers on board, only 103 will survive a G7e torpedo from U-boat 69 “The Laughing Cow”, sinking the vessel at 2:40 a.m. Newfoundland Time on October 14.

This site hopes to record the names, photographs, and bios of everyone on board the S.S. Caribou on that night.

Click the bios listed below to see who survived and who died.
