Welcome on board the S.S. Caribou, leaving from Sydney, Cape Breton. It is Tuesday, October 13, 1942 and the ship is scheduled to sail for Port aux Basques, Newfoundland at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Of the 238 crew and passengers on board, only 103 will survive a G7e torpedo from U-boat 69 “The Laughing Cow”, sinking the vessel at 2:40 a.m. Newfoundland Time on October 14.
